March 2007 River Spinners Weaving Workshop At The Putney School with Melissa Johnson
Dates:
March 10 and 17 - 10 am to 4 pm
March 13 and 15 - 7 pm to 9 pm
Maximum of 10 students

This workshop was for beginning through advanced weavers. Each participant planned her own projects using the materials of her own choice. We either brought our own yarns, including handspun, or purchased yarns from the weaving room inventory. The Putney School has a large collection of various sizes of cotton yarns, 10/2 tencel, rayon and cotton chenille, some linen, wool and novelties. Their looms range in size from 22 inches weaving width to 54 inches and have 4 and 8 harnesses. We were inspired by the many swatches and samples of handwoven fabrics and an extensive collection of books and magazinesl. With careful planning, there will be time to weave several scarves or a larger project such as a blanket or fabric for sewing clothing or accessories. Melissa was also happy to teach warp dyeing and skein painting although time did not permit - future class?

Deerfield Valley Farmers' Day Fair
For three years the Rivers Spinners have been represented at the Deerfield Valley Farmers' Day Fair. Photo is from 2006 when Elizabeth and her sister and her three children, who were 8,9, and 11, for a spinning demonstration at Deerfield Valley Farmers' Day Fair. In 2007, Lisa represented the guild and in 2005 it was Leslie, Maryanne, and Elizabeth. Keep this weekend in mind each year as they will be asking again.

The Wedding
It was a grand day, a beautiful ceremony, and a wonderful reception. The Afghan was beautifully pieced by Susan and the book was fantastically put together by Cindy Baehr. There was much talk of what our next group project would be as everyone was delighted to see the final products.

Richard Muto - English Long Draw
13 fiber enthusiasts enjoy the afternoon workshop with Richard Muto assisted by David Lima. To demonstrate how the bouncy yarn would feel they handed out elastic bands! Talk about springy yarn!
